THE SCIENCE OF AUTUMN LIGHT

As autumn air cools and clears, the sun sinks lower in the Northern Hemisphere sky, and sunlight travels farther through the atmosphere. The shorter blue wavelengths scatter away, leaving the long, glowing tones of red, orange, and gold. With less haze and more contrast, fall light reveals itself with a sharper, more defined brilliance. An intensity unique to the season.

Process & Paintings

This year as summer turned to fall, I really noticed how the quality of the light changed. The air felt clearer. Colours looked deeper and more defined. Many of the paintings use colour and contrast to follow that transition. Warm light against cool shadow, saturated tones beside calm neutrals. You’ll see yellow next to violet, red beside green, orange near blue. These intentional contrasts are a tribute to the subtle beauty of nature shifting through seasons.
