The Artist
I grew up in a small rural town outside Orillia, Ontario, where endless space and freedom shaped my childhood. From a young age, I was drawn to painting, drawing, and playing with my dad’s camera—activities that sparked my love for creativity, art, and exploration.
In high school, my teachers encouraged my art and even, on occasion, switched a science project for an art project. I still think of that support today.
Feeling that art was woven into my day-to-day, I decided to study biochemistry at the University of Guelph. It was there that I met my husband, and within weeks of graduating, we found ourselves on a plane to Vancouver Island. I had visited often as a child, and I couldn’t wait to share this incredible place with him.
Years of travel, school, and adventures followed, but the mountains and forests of the west coast always felt like home. Eventually, the call to return to painting became impossible to ignore. I made the difficult but fulfilling decision to resign from a rewarding job in healthcare to dedicate more time and focus to creating art.
Now, my family—complete with two young boys and a sweet dog, Rook—calls Vancouver Island home. I am grateful to live, work, and play on the unceded traditional territories of the Snuneymuxw, Snaw-naw-as, and Stz'uminus peoples.
My journey has come full circle, back to the creativity that has always been at the heart of who I am and I am eternally grateful for the family, friends, teachers, gallerists, and community of collectors that have supported me and made this possible.
